In-Depth Biography: Paola Baglietto

Paola Baglietto is latina living in the US. She was born and raised in Mexico City by immigrant parents (Belgian and Italian). She grew up surrounded by entrepreneurs, diplomats, academics and organizers who sought to change the landscape of institutionalized poverty and disadvantage in the country.

These influences imbued in her a passion for racial, economic, gender, language, religion, and LGBTQIA+ justice. As a white, Mexican woman, Paola has learnt and studied the complexities of intersectionalities, institutionalized discrimination and the protective cover of whiteness in America (and the world).

This led her to start her career in the non-for-profit realm. After completing Business school with a Human Resources Major, she worked with low socioeconomic status entrepreneurs to foster their productive projects and fund educational programs. She then went on to complete a Masters in Education and a Graduate Speciality in Human Resource Development. By that time, she also worked at the Pepsico International Headquarters, specifically on the Cultural Transformation team. This lead her to acquire in-depth knowledge of organizational culture and transformational practices.

As she delved deeper into disadvantage and discrimination, she turned her head toward education. She primarily worked with Latinx youth, and saw first-hand how institutions in this country work together to strip Black and Brown youth of agency, language and opportunity, as well as how resilient and inspiring these young people are.

She set about to change the system, she first pursed another Masters degree and later became a Doctoral candidate. At the educational level, she was one of the first to institute dedicated equity strategies, a DEI team, specific measures and procedures, one-on-one coaching and the programs that would be needed to exact profound change, allow for social mobility and transform the culture of the educational institutions she worked with.

She left the classroom committed to sharing her acquired know-how with those who are interested in becoming allies of DEIB work. Paola is devoted to working with People of Color who are aiming to deconstruct and transform oppressive systems and help any organizations who are willing to explore cultural growth.
